Alan Brown - Artistic Journey

Alan Brown’s artistic journey began in a photo studio’s darkroom, igniting a lifelong passion for photography and visual arts that has spanned more than four decades. After earning a BS in Communications from Syracuse University with a major in Advertising Photography and a minor in Art History, Alan established himself as a multifaceted creative professional.
In 1981, Alan founded PhotoDesign, an advertising photography studio where he developed his signature style blending technical expertise with artistic vision. His early work established him as a photographer who could capture the essence of his subjects while maintaining the precision required in commercial work.
Alan was an early adopter of digital technology, entering the digital world in 1985 when the medium was still in its infancy. This pioneering spirit allowed him to bridge traditional photography techniques with emerging digital possibilities, positioning him at the forefront of the visual media transformation.
In 1989, he expanded his creative reach by establishing Photonics, a graphic design and web development firm. As creative director, Alan led diverse projects ranging from branding and advertising campaigns to website design and development. He successfully operated this business for 32 years before selling it in 2020. During this time, he also served as a partner in Tulong LLC, a socially responsible eco-friendly women’s apparel company, for six years.
Throughout his business career, Alan maintained his dedication to artistic innovation while exploring new techniques and experimenting with different mediums. Known for his perfectionism and attention to detail, he consistently pushed the boundaries of visual expression while refusing to be confined by purist approaches to art.
Now retired since 2021, Alan devotes himself full-time to his artistic pursuits as a completely digital artist. This new chapter allows him to fully explore the creative potential of digital media, creating work that showcases his mastery of visual arts while continuing to innovate. His evolution from darkroom apprentice to successful business owner and accomplished digital artist reflects his enduring commitment to creative excellence and his ability to adapt and thrive across changing media landscapes.
